Description

The first Sharjah Classic Cars Festival kicked off on Friday, showcasing more than 200 vintage vehicles.

Footage shows visitors participating in the festival, capturing memorable moments alongside the timeless cars.

"The launch of the Sharjah Vintage Cars Festival in its first session, which will be held between the second and fourth of February, under the slogan “More than just cars,” was based on the directives of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Vintage Car Club, with the aim of highlighting the role of the Emirate of Sharjah in paying attention to the culture of acquiring old cars, taking care of them, and considering them a part of cultural and historical heritage," said Fatima Al Suwaidi, Head of the Strategy and Institutional Development Office at the Sharjah Vintage Car Club.

The festival distinguishes itself as the first regular annual event for old cars in Sharjah. Displaying rare collectables, some presented for the first time, the festival caters to specialists, hobbyists, and the wider society.

The organisers have incorporated five dialogue sessions addressing various topics, contributing to the festival's value in making vintage cars more accessible and intriguing to diverse audiences.

"We usually participate in all car exhibitions, and we always try to be present at them. In every exhibition, there is always an opportunity to get to know new people, as the car community is in some way different and its atmosphere is wonderful and enjoyable. It is also wonderful to present to the public the cars that you have acquired and show them to them, as it is an unusual feeling after seeing the public’s reaction to your possessions," shared Nasser Al-Arif, an event participant.

He further detailed his participation, highlighting a 1974 Volkswagen Combi sourced from Brazil and a meticulously refurbished Volkswagen Beetle.

Al-Arif emphasised the challenges faced in finding spare parts but underscored the satisfaction of showcasing their possessions to the public.

The festival, organised by the Sharjah Vintage Car Club, aims to underscore the cultural and historical significance of classic cars while boosting tourism and entertainment in the region.

Over three days, attendees can expect panel discussions with owners of the UAE's rarest vintage cars, interactive workshops, entertainment, and a dedicated area for food trucks.
