Description

Three sons of the chairman of Hamas’s political bureau Ismael Haniyeh were killed after an Israeli airstrike targeted their car in Al-Shati Refugee Camp in Gaza City on Wednesday.

Footage shows the vehicle completely destroyed, in addition to a blood-stained exterior. Graves of the victims are also shown.

“Three of Ismael Haniyeh’s children, Hazem, Amir, and Mohammed, were killed by an airstrike that targeted their car in Al-Shati Refugee Camp in Gaza City,” Hamas said in a statement.

The IDF and Israel Security Agency (Shabak) issued a joint statement saying that 'three Hamas operatives were killed while on their way to carry out terrorist activities in the central region of the Gaza Strip'.

“The three operatives who were targeted are Amir Haniyeh, leader of a cell of Hamas armed wing, Mohammed and Hazem Haniyeh; two Hamas militants,” the statement added.

Ismael Haniyeh, the 61-year-old Hamas leader who is based in Qatar, claimed that the deaths of his children 'won’t affect Hamas’ demands to negotiate a ceasefire'.

“Our demands are clear and specific and won’t be conceded. If the enemy believes that killing my sons at the height of negotiations and before Hamas’s reply will make us change our position, then this enemy is delusional,” Haniyeh added in a televised interview. In November, an Israeli airstrike destroyed Haniyeh’s house in Gaza.

Fighting in Gaza between Israel and Hamas is currently in its seventh month. The Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

Israel declared war on the group and a 'complete siege' of Gaza, with a large-scale campaign of air strikes. A ground incursion began at the end of the third week, with Israeli leaders vowing to 'wipe out' Hamas. Palestinian officials reported that at least 33,482 people had been killed and 76,049 injured at the time of publication.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) claimed that Hamas locations and infrastructure were targeted in the response. However, United Nations experts warned against 'collective punishment' for the people of Gaza, before predicting a 'humanitarian crisis' and then claimed that 'hell is settling in' for the region.
