Description

Residents of Morgan City, Louisiana, are grappling with the aftermath of Hurricane Francine, which has caused significant damage and power outages in the area. The storm, which made landfall recently, has left more than 170,000 homes without power and caused widespread flooding and destruction.

Bridget Samson, a local, expressed her shock at the extent of the damage: "It was scary, for sure. It was bad. I did not expect this so bad, not at all, no."

She also described the devastation to her property: "I can't even say how many years this building has been here. It has been a restaurant and now is a tideland. I don't know what happened, I just know that this is probably the worst one that we have seen. We gonna clean it up."

Another resident, Louise Mansfield, reported significant damage to her home: "The storing house has a huge picture window and part of it blew out. I do not know, before the storm actually, this sucked it out. And then the rest of it fell out, and we took some water, the water just wouldn't go out like we had water going in under the foundation."

Despite the weakening of Hurricane Francine, which has dropped to a tropical depression as it moves northward across the Mississippi, the threat of additional flooding and rain persists. The US National Guard is currently assisting with debris removal and other relief efforts. Images from the area show flooded homes, fallen trees, and damaged structures.

At the time of publication, there have been no reports of deaths or injuries related to the hurricane. The storm's impact has been significant, with some experts noting that it is unusual for there to be no hurricanes in the Atlantic basin during the first week of September, marking the first time in over 30 years that this has occurred.
