Description

German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said German Chancellor Angela Merkel was taking measures regarding the refugee crisis at the border between Poland and Belarus during a government press conference in Berlin, on Friday.

According to Seibert, Merkel had taken a phone call with Lukashenko, the president of Belarus, to 'try to improve a very dramatic and hard situation'.

"I can add to this whole complex of topics that the Federal Chancellor had a discussion this morning within the framework of a video conference with the UNHCR head Filippo Grandi and the Director-General of UN migration Antonio Vitorino on the situation of migrants in Belarus." the German spokesman said.

The press conference took place a few hours after Belarusian state media reported that migrants and refugees were being moved into a warehouse located close to the border.
