Description

Hundreds of pensioners came to the centre of Minsk to join a march against Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Monday.

The protesters marched through the streets of the Belarusian capital, heading towards Yakub Kolas Square along Independence Avenue, and passing October Square and Victory Square. They could be seen carrying the former white-red-white flags of Belarus and placards, while chanting "Free political prisoners!,""Justice!,""We are many in God we trust!" and "Long live Belarus!".

The police did not block the movement of the protesters' march, but announced that participating in the unsanctioned rally was illegal.

Belarus has been swept by anti-government protests following the disputed presidential election that saw long-time leader Lukashenko re-elected for a sixth term.
