Description

An Emirati military transport aircraft delivering humanitarian aid to Lebanon arrived at Beirut airport on Friday evening and was received by the authorities.

Footage shows the aircraft on the tarmac and being received by Nasser Yassin, the Lebanese minister of the environment and head of the country's emergency committee. Aid supplies can also be seen being unloaded from the aircraft.

On September 30, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed announced a $100 million urgent relief package for the Lebanese people.

The initiative comes "within the framework of the UAE's efforts to support the brothers in Lebanon and help them overcome the current challenges and its firm commitment to supporting the brotherly Lebanese people," according to the official UAE news agency WAM.

Several nations, including Iraq, Jordan, and Turkey, have delivered supplies to Lebanon since the Israeli bombing escalated. The European Union and countries including Qatar, Egypt and Canada have also promised assistance.

The IDF announced the launch of ‘Operation Northern Arrows’ on Monday, September 23 with the stated aim of allowing tens of thousands of residents of northern Israel to return to their homes.

Israel began a 'limited and targeted' ground incursion into Lebanon on Tuesday, after over a week of airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon. More than 1,200 were reported killed and over 7,000 injured in those strikes at the time of publication, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.

Last Friday, an Israeli attack on Beirut's southern suburb killed Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and others. Iran launched a wave of missiles on Tuesday, which it said was in response to assassinations and Israeli attacks on its allies.

Tensions in southern Lebanon first escalated in mid-September after mass explosions of pagers and handheld radios belonging to Hezbollah. The group has exchanged cross-border fire with Israel since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023.
