Description

Following a call by the Yellow Vests movement, protesters took to the streets of Paris on Saturday to demonstrate against the introduction of a planned new vaccine pass, and vaccination regulations.

The protest was directed against a planned law to replace the health pass with a vaccine pass, which would only permit the vaccinated access to indoor public spaces, including bars, restaurants and cinemas. Protesters also oppose compulsory vaccinations for certain professions such as nurses, and firefighters, and are against an expansion of the vaccination programme for children.

Protesters marched through the French capital chanting and holding signs and banners criticising the government's measures to contain the pandemic amid surging cases of the Omicron variant.

The French government has announced that it will extend a vaccine recommendation to all children aged five to 11 subject to parental approval.

The protest also covered social issues, including social and fiscal justice, direct and participatory democracy and calls for a 35 percent increase in the minimum wage.
