Description

Dozens of pro-Palestine protesters marched through Rotterdam on Sunday to demand the Dutch government to stop arms supplies to Israel amid the ongoing war in Gaza and Lebanon.

Footage shows cars honking in support of a crowd chanting and waving Palestinian flags on a bridge overhead. Demonstrators are also seen marching through Noordplein town square in the Rotterdam Noord district, carrying fake coffins draped in Palestinian flags to represent the human cost of Israel's escalating offensives.

"I think that European governments should make sure that Israel keeps to its promises," one protester said, calling for an 'arms embargo' and 'boycott' of Israel.

"Europe must be free from America to say to Israel "No, we're not giving anything to Elbit or to Rafael or all those gun industries," she added, referring to major Dutch cooperation with Israeli defence companies.

Protesters called on the Dutch government to halt the export of F-35 fighter jet parts to Israel which have continued despite accusations of complicity in war crimes made by human rights organisations.

"The government should at least stop arming Israel. They sent some parts of the F-35 so at least should - the least they can do is to stop arming Israel. Israel is an occupation force - I think it's a terrorist state," another demonstrator added.

On February 12, 2024, the Hague Court of Appeal ordered the Dutch government to halt the supply of F-35 fighter jet parts to Israel due to a 'clear risk' of serious violations of international humanitarian law (IHL) in Gaza.

The ongoing Gaza war broke out after Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023 killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the enclave, the Israeli military conducted a large-scale campaign of air strikes and a ground incursion, killing at least 42,000 Palestinians and injuring more than 98,000, according to the latest figures from the Palestinian side.
