Russian President Vladimir Putin wished the national Olympic team success at the Beijing Winter Olympics, speaking via videoconference from Novo-Ogaryovo on Tuesday.

“Here at home we will be rooting for you, to be proud of your achievements and believe that in the Olympic arenas you will surpass yourselves and show the highest class,” Putin said.

He added Russia was against “the politicisation of sport and demonstrative boycotts, and support traditional Olympic values, first and foremost equality and justice,"

The president also urged Russian Olympians to strictly comply with the requirements of the organising committee and follow all medical regulations in Beijing.

"I ask you and your teammates to strictly comply with the requirements of the Organising Committee of the Games and follow all medical prescriptions. Of course, it is the task of the Russian Government, FMBA, and the Olympic Committee to create the necessary conditions for this," the President said.

Russia’s Olympic delegation includes 212 athletes. The 2022 Winter Olympic Games will be held in Beijing from 4 to 20 February.
