Description

Thousands of members of Berlin's Kurdish community marched against the Turkish military operation in northern Syria on Saturday.

People gathered in several of cities in Europe and Germany under the slogan "World Resistance Day" to show solidarity with the Kurdish movement and denounce Turkey's actions.

Berlin police estimated about 3,500 people participated, which was largely peaceful.

Ankara's military offensive, dubbed 'Operation Peace Spring', began on October 9 with the stated aim of creating a 'safe zone' in north-eastern Syria by removing Kurdish forces, which Turkey regards as terrorists.

Turkey agreed to pause last week's assault and has now struck a deal with Russia over the conditions for the safe zone. Both sides will carry out joint border patrols while the Russian military will help facilitate the removal of Kurdish militia from the area.
