President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Kiev's partners for strong response to what he claims is proof that DPRK military personnel are involved in the 'war against Ukraine', in a video message released on Sunday.
"We now have clear data that people from North Korea are also being supplied to Russia, and these are not just workers for production facilities, but also military personnel," the Ukrainian president alleged.
"And we are waiting for a normal, honest, strong reaction from our partners to this," he continued. "This is the entry of another state into the war against Ukraine," he added.
"We have to deal with it. React. Counteract it. And we can't let evil grow. If the world remains silent now, and if we have to face soldiers from North Korea on the front lines."
Moscow and Pyongyang have strongly denied the claims, while NATO chief Mark Rutte also said he couldn't confirm "reports that North Koreans are actively now as soldiers engaged in the war effort.”
The US, EU and other Western partners have supplied tens of billions of dollars in military aid to assist Kiev in the war with Russia, since Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022. Moscow recognised the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urged Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.
Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
