Description

Senior Hazara leader and former lawmaker Jafar Mahdawi was among hundreds of Hazara leaders who had gathered in Kabul in a show of support for the Taliban government on Thursday.

"We pay attention to positive actions which were carried out by the Islamic Emirate in the new political chapter and Hazara people emphasise the use of peaceful ways in political developments to solve the problems that exist. We support the continuity and cooperation of the Islamic Emirate and we hope that by God willing, we will see the situation improve over time for reforms and satisfaction of the people," said Mahdawi as he addressed the gathering.

Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid was also among the attendees and addressed the participants.

"Actions that took place during the war, the prejudices and pessimism between people must be abandoned today," said Mujahid as Afghanistan’s Hazaras, a Shia minority in the otherwise Sunni country had been among those persecuted by Sunni Islamists for years.

The gathering came after a series of deadly blasts killed dozens in Shiite mosques across Afghanistan last month.

Taliban took over the rule in Afghanistan after the US ended its decades-long campaign in the country in August.
