Thousands of Shia Indians marched in the Kargil district of Indian Kashmir on Wednesday to protest against attacks on Shia Muslims in Pakistan's Parachinar district and the assassination of Hamas leader Haniyeh in Iran.
The march was attended by members of Anjuman Jamiyatul Ulama Isna Ashariya-Kargil (JUIAK), who organised the massive protest.
The footage shows the protesters marching with placards and chanting slogans, expressing their concern over the attack on Shia Muslims in Pakistan’s Parachinar by militias which left at least 44 dead.
‘The way innocent civilians, mostly Shia Muslims were killed in Parachinar in Pakistan is very unfortunate and condemnable,’ said Sajjad Hussain, Representative of Anjuman Jamiyatul Ulama Isna Ashariya-Kargil (JUIAK).
He added that ‘another unfortunate thing is the Pakistani civil society, Pakistani media and Pakistani government are watching like silent spectators.’
On the same day, a spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry denounced the armed attack on Shia Muslims in the Pakistani region.
Parachinar, a region located in Kurram Agency along the border with Afghanistan, has been the site of repeated clashes between Shia and Sunni groups.
On Wednesday morning, Hamas announced the death of its political leader, who was 'assassinated along with his companion in an Israeli raid on their residence in Tehran,' according to a statement from the group. Haniyeh had been in Tehran to attend the inauguration of Iran's new president, Masoud Bazeshkian. Israel did not comment or claim responsibility for the strike.
