Description

Residents of the Al-Shujaiya neighbourhood east of Gaza City were seen assessing the damage and recovering bodies on Wednesday after the IDF announced the end of its two-week operation.

Footage shows locals walking through the streets amid destroyed houses and buildings while others are seen carrying bodies on horse-drawn carts.

"Where is my family?" asked one resident, pointing to bodies near a destroyed house. Islam Abu al-Ata, another local, said she won't leave the area despite IDF evacuation warnings.

The Israeli military said in a statement that it had completed its mission in the area after 'eight tunnels were destroyed', adding that "weapons, laptops and communication equipment were found inside."

"In addition, equipment that enables extended stays and electricity and gas infrastructure that would be used by the terrorists were located," the statement added.

Earlier on Wednesday, the IDF called on all Gaza City residents to evacuate to the southern parts of the Strip via 'safe corridors'.

Fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza broke out after the Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army launched a large-scale campaign of air strikes and ground incursions, killing at least 38,295 and injuring more than 88,241 others, at the time of publication.
