The President of the Regional Council of Ile-de-France Valerie Pecresse officially launched her presidential campaign for The Republicans (LR) party in Paris on Saturday proclaiming to a large crowd gathered at the Maison de la Mutualite that the "right-wing is back".

Pecresse spoke to the audience at length about immigration, freedom and the national educational system, stating: "We cannot rebuild the nation without a great national education. I want a strict school and social equality."

The 54-year-old also said the right-wing was "determined to make France a winning, free and sovereign nation".

The speech was given at the end of a general meeting of The Republicans (LR) party in the presence of parliamentarians, mayors and local Republican officials including the former European Commission's Head of Task Force for Relations with the United Kingdom Michel Barnier and Paris' 7th arrondissement mayor Rachida Dati.
