Description

Afghanistan's new Taliban government will be formally announced soon said acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi during a speech at the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad on Friday.

Muttaqi was in Pakistan to hold talks with the Pakistani leadership, the first official ones since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan last August.

"Embassies are opened in our country and our embassies, consulates and representations in foreign countries are operational. So we are basically the recognized de facto official government of Afghanistan. You will see soon the official recognition formally," he told the audience.

During the visit, Muttaqi also met his Pakistani counterpart, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, to review bilateral relations and raise the issue of granting visas to Afghan nationals.
