Description

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov gave a speech at the UN General Assembly in New York on Saturday.

"Washington is trying to turn the entire world into its backyard. The instrument of coercion of dissenters is illegal unilateral sanctions, which for years have been imposed and violated the UN Charter and used as an instrument of political blackmail," said the top-diplomat.

Lavrov added that the restrictions affect the well-being of the citizens whose countries are under sanctions, as they are 'preventing access to essential goods, including medicines, vaccines, and food.'

Lavrov is staying in the US with the four-day official visit. During his stay, the minister held talks with a number of top-diplomats and took part in the UN Security Council session on Ukraine.
