Description

Israel's Iron Dome defence system was seen intercepting rockets over Haifa, fired from Lebanon on Monday, as the IDF launched what it called a 'limited ground operation in the south of the country early on Tuesday morning.

The incursion, dubbed the 'next phase' of the war by Israel, came following the past week's campaign of airstrikes across Beirut's southern areas. The IDF also hit Hezbollah HQ in Beirut on Friday, killed leader Hassan Nasrallah.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that the aerial attacks had resulted in more than 1,030 deaths and left 6,300 people injured at time of publication.

Tensions between the sides escalated in mid-September after a series of explosions of wireless communications devices used by Hezbollah left dozens dead and thousands injured. Hezbollah responded by launching hundreds of rockets into northern Israel. Hezbollah has been exchanging cross-border shelling with Israeli forces since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
