Description

Visitors and residents were able to see the annual light show at Tokyo’s Roppongi Hills on Monday.

Formally known as the ‘Roppongi Hills Christmas Illumination 2021’, the display of lights began on November 19 and is scheduled to end on December 25.

"The coronavirus has subsided quite a bit now, and I think we are able to go out a lot more than last year,” said Yukari, a visitor of the attraction.

“There is an increasing number of what people call the Omicron strain, but I am able to go out and do a lot more outings than before,” added Yukari.

According to the latest data from Sunday, compiled by Japan’s Office for COVID-19 and Other Emerging Infectious Disease Control, the country has seen a total of over 1,720,000 cases of COVID-19, with 99 new cases of the virus reported on the day.

On Monday, Japan’s Health Ministry confirmed the detection of four new cases of the WHO’s latest listed COVID-19 ‘variants of concern’, known as the Omicron variant.

The country has to-date seen a total of 17 cases of the new variant.
