Description

China's Foreign Ministry backs the Taliban's demand to unfreeze assets in Afghanistan, according to spokesperson Zhao Lijian at Wednesday's Beijing press conference.

"The US should face up to the legitimate demand of Afghanistan, abandon pressures and sanctions, and stop creating obstacles to the economy, livelihood and peace and reconstruction in Afghanistan," Zhao stated.

The spokesperson accused the US of committing "grave human rights crimes overseas," including using 'fake evidence' as reasons to go to war, citing Iraq and Syria.

Zhao also spoke about the situation in the Korean peninsula, referring to joint military exercises undertaken by both North and South Korea. South Korean just launched its first underwater ballistic missile test earlier in the day.

"China remains committed to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, realising denuclearisation of the Peninsula and holds that the issue should be settled through dialogue and negotiation," he concluded.
