Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia is in contact with both Azerbaijan and Armenia to change the situation on the border between the two states into a peaceful way, spearing during a briefing in Moscow on Wednesday.

She outlined that the fighting had ceased 'as a result of mediation efforts' after phone conversations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and his Azerbaijani and Armenian counterparts.

The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman also added that based on the statements made by official representatives of Baku and Yerevan, one could conclude that 'the sides have completely opposite assessments of the situation and are accusing each other of what happened.'

Commenting on the statements made by NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, Zakharova noted that NATO continues information processing of the European population, accusing Russia of meddling in the affairs of other states without any evidence.

"Recently, NATO Secretary-General [Jens Stoltenberg] used a meeting of the 73rd session of the Northern Council for this, where he reiterated the accusations of our country's interference again into the affairs of other countries, which has already become a bad tradition of his, while he did not provide any evidence or facts," said the spokeswoman.

In addition, Zakharova also noted that London's 'belligerent rhetoric' against Nord Stream-2 is bewildering to Russia.
