Despite channelling her inner Johan Cruyff in their 1:0 victory against New Zealand in their first group match, Netherlands's Lieke Martens did not want to compare herself with the Dutch football legend. The Dutch forward made the remarks during an interview prior to the Dutch squad training in Reims on Tuesday.

"He is like a hero everywhere. Of course I think he is a role model for everyone but I don't want to compare myself with Cruyff," said Lieke whose perfect execution of the signature Cruyff Turn had left viewers gobsmacked.

Martens also stressed the need for girls to work hard "to come to the top."

"They have to practise and they have to continue and work hard and with talent you only can come there," said the Dutch star.

Martens was named FIFA's best player in 2017 and scored the first ever FIFA Women's World Cup goal for the Netherlands in the team's first match at the 2015 World Cup tournament.
