Description

Climate activist Greta Thunberg called out the COP26 climate summit as a "celebration of business as usual and blah blah blah", describing it as a 'greenwash festival' in a speech on Friday in Glasgow, where the summit is taking place.

"It is not a secret that COP26 is a failure. It should be obvious that we cannot solve a crisis with the same methods that got us into it in the first place," she told a crowd of thousands of protesters who gathered at a march organised by the Fridays for Future movement.

"Many are starting to ask themselves, what will it take for the people in power to wake up? But let's be clear, they are already awake. They know exactly what they are doing," Thunberg added. "The leaders are not doing nothing, they are actively creating loopholes and shaping frameworks to benefit themselves."

The activist went on to say the root causes of the climate crisis date back to colonialism, adding, "But this is not going to be spoken about inside the COP, it's just too uncomfortable."

World leaders are gathered in Glasgow for the COP26 climate summit, to negotiate voluntary non-binding agreements meant to address climate change.
