Description

Palestinian factory Supertex has announced it will produce sleeping bags for earthquake victims. Footage filmed on Thursday shows workers at the factory making and packing sleeping bags for shipment to areas affected by the disaster.

"The average production is 1,000 bags per day, but today we are making 2,000 bags because our workers wanted to do something for the affected people,'" Raed Al-Saafin, the factory owner, said.

He went on to say that there is no limit to how much they will sew, but the workers are attempting to make as many bags as possible because 'they believe every minute they work might help or save the life of a man, woman, or a child.'

Production of sleeping bags was also supported by donations from locals who expressed their desire to help.

The Turkish Ambassador to Palestine, Ahmed Reda, visited the facility and checked the process. He highlighted that the current urgent needs are blankets, sleeping bags, and tents. "We are thankful that our friends and brothers in Palestine like to contribute to Turkish urgent needs according to their means," Reda added.

On February 6, two earthquakes hit Syria and Turkey, devastating cities across the two countries. Many buildings were reported to have collapsed, with Aleppo and Hama badly affected.

At the time of publication, the total combined death toll stands at over 43,000, and tens of thousands injured.
