٠٠:٠٢:٠٣German government spokesperson Steffen Seibert stated that Germany supports UN-brokered peace talks in Libya with the aim of reaching a ceasefire, while speaking from Berlin on Wednesday.
"Libya was a topic during the phone call between the Chancellor and the Turkish president and they agree that the UN process towards a political solution in Libya must be strengthened," said Seibert.
"The UN remains the central reference point for this process towards a political peace solution. It is to be welcomed that both parties, that have recently been the subject of discussion, have returned to the 5+5 military talks," he added.
Libya's Government of National Accord (GNA) has scored victories against Khalifa Haftar's Libyan National Army (LNA) in recent weeks, with the help of Ankara, taking back control of key locations in the northwest of the country.
Libya has been torn by conflict since the ousting of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. More recently the country has been split into areas controlled by the GNA in Tripoli and the northwest, and territories held by the eastern-based LNA in Benghazi, led by Haftar.
