Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko was seen arriving at the presidential Independence Palace in Minsk by helicopter, while wearing black body armour and holding an assault rifle in his hands, on Sunday.

Footage shows Lukashenko closely watching the peaceful opposition protest on Independence Avenue and near the Minsk Hero City Obelisk during the flight.

The incumbent president landed at the venue as the protest continued.

After landing Lukashenko left the security perimeter of the palace and met with the law enforcement officers, who were cordoning off the Independence Palace, in order to prevent protesters from breaking into the property.

The head of state thanked the officers for cooperation. In turn, the law enforcement officers applauded Lukashenko and said that they will stand for Lukashenko "till the end."

After that, the president got back aboard the helicopter and took off from his residence.

Massive rallies kicked off in Belarus after the exit polls results were announced on Sunday, August 9. According to the Central Election Commission, Lukashenko, who has been in power in Belarus since 1994, won the August 9 election with 80.1 percent of the vote.

More than 6,700 people have been detained in Belarus since the beginning of the protests. The Interior Ministry of Belarus reported hundreds of injured, including more than 120 police officers. The Health Ministry of Belarus also confirmed three deaths during the rallies.

Outside of the anti-Lukashenko protests, rallies have taken place in support of the incumbent president.
