Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu outlined his vision for an anti-Iran military alliance - dubbed the 'Middle East NATO' - as he addressed a session of the US Congress in Washington DC on Wednesday.

"The new alliance I envision, would be a natural extension of the groundbreaking Abraham Accords. Those accords saw peace forged between Israel and four Arab countries, and they were supported by Republicans and Democrats alike. We could call… I have a name for this new alliance. I think we should call it the Abraham Alliance," he told them.

The Accords were a number of bilateral deals between Israel and the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan between 2020 and 2021, under the Trump administration.

Netanyahu also claimed Iran itself was seeking to "conquer the Middle East" through it its "many proxies" including the Houthis, Hezbollah, and Hamas.

"When Israel fights Hamas, we're fighting Iran. When we fight Hezbollah, we're fighting Iran. When we fight the Houthis, we're fighting Iran. And when we fight Iran, we're fighting the most radical and murderous enemy of the United States of America," he claimed.

"When Israel acts to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, nuclear weapons that could destroy Israel and threaten every American city, every city that you come from, we're not only protecting ourselves, we're protecting you," he added.

Netanyahu also took aim at pro-Palestinian protesters.

"I have a message for these protesters. When the tyrants of Tehran, who hang gays from cranes and murder women for not covering their hair, are praising, promoting, and funding you, you have officially become Iran's useful idiots," he alleged. "Some of these protesters hold up signs proclaiming Gays for Gaza. They might as well hold up signs saying chickens for KFC."

In response, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei posted on social media that "the strength of the resistance is more and more evident every day."

"A huge system in all military, political and economic dimensions such as the USA stands behind the Zionists in fighting against Hamas, but they have not been able to bring it to its knees," he added. Iran has repeatedly denied any direct involvement in October's Hamas attack on Israel, which sparked the current Israel-Hamas war.
