"I'm training 23 players who I know will give their lives on the pitch," claimed Spanish coach Jorge Vilda during a pre-match press conference in Reims, one day before his side take on title defenders and top ranked team at the Women's World Cup, the USA, in the knock out phase.

Player Marta Torrejon echoed the coach, adding '"we are calm, we know that we have ahead of us a very complicated opponent. But I tell you, my focus is on my team, I rely on my team mates, we will give it all and we will make it difficult [for them]."

Vilda also stressed that the team is prepared to play under harsh climatic conditions, as temperatures around 34 degrees Celsius are expected on Monday.

Following the press conference the squad held a training session on the pitch.
