Former US president Donald Trump vowed a 'very quick resolution' for the Ukraine conflict ahead of his meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky in New York on Friday if elected on the 2024 presidential polls.

"We have a very good relationship and I also have a very good relationship, as you know, with president Putin and I think if we win I think we are going to get it resolved very quickly," he said.

Furthermore, the Republican nominee called to end the conflict in Ukraine, stating: 'It has to end, at some point it has to end.'

"He's going through hell and his country is going through hell like few countries have ever, like it's happened anywhere, nobody has ever seen anything like it, it's a terrible situation," he added.

Trump also thanked and honoured Zelensky for attending the meeting despite having gone through 'a tremendous amount, like probably nobody else in history.'

The Ukrainian leader agreed with the presidential candidate’s statements, saying "We share a common view that the war in Ukraine has to be stopped and Putin can't win."

"Ukrainians have to prevail and I want to discuss with you [Trump] the details of our plan for the victory," he added.

Earlier, Trump called the Ukrainian leader a 'man who refuses to make a deal' during a rally in North Carolina on Wednesday. He also criticised incumbent US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for 'feeding Zelensky, money and munitions like no country has ever seen before.'

Zelensky, on the other hand, gave a media interview prior to Trump's comments, saying that the Republican nominee 'doesn't really know how to stop the war.'

According to media reports, Zelensky also held talks with Biden and Harris. In his post on X (formerly Twitter), he stated that he discussed with the Democratic Party nominee his 'victory plan'.
