Description

Protesters demanding the resignation of President Maia Sandu unloaded over a tonne of apples in front of the Ministry of Agriculture in Chisinau on Wednesday.

Footage shows demonstrators, who were backing the country’s farmers, chanting slogans and listening to speeches.

"They are throwing away tonnes of sausage and cheese in markets, while people get nothing. Why? We are starving. You should see what a huge amount of products markets are throwing away," one commented.

The rally was part of a flash mob organised by the opposition Shor Party and agricultural producers. There was no official information on any detentions during the rally.

On Monday, Sandu called for more powers for law enforcement agencies, claiming that demonstrators want to "establish a government that will be loyal to Russia".

Thousands of people attended the first of these rallies on September 18, outside the presidential building in the capital.

Dozens of tents were pitched with organisers calling them a 'City of Change', saying they’d only leave when their conditions were met.

Mass anti-government rallies began in the country in May amid soaring energy and food prices, as well as falling living standards and record inflation.
