Around 25,000 Hungarian football fans marched through Budapest on Tuesday afternoon ahead of their national team's debut match in Euro 2020 against the defending champions Portugal.

Thousands of black-clad ultras as well as supporters wearing Hungarian national team's jerseys gathered on Heroes' Square near the UEFA official festival zone and marched to Puskas Arena chanting and waving flares.

The rally was called long ahead of the start of the tournament by the Carpathian Brigade ultras group.

Outside the stadium fans welcomed the Hungarian national team who arrived in their team bus.

The Hungarian side is making its second appearance in the European Championships in almost 50 years. In their Euro 2020 opener against the reigning champions, led by Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, the Hungarian side will be supported by almost 70,000 supporters, who will be admitted to the stands of Puskas arena. The match kicks off at 18:00 local time (16:00 GMT).

UEFA Euro 2020 is being held across the continent for the first time in the competition's 60-year history, with 11 host cities in all. The tournament, postponed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, kicked off on 11 June in Rome and will wrap up with the final match to be played on Wembley stadium in London on 11 July.
