Footage shows activists marching through the city with signs, banners, and inflatable prop, chanting: “Hey, hey, ho, ho, fossil fuels have got to go.”
"I think it is really important for the future of this generation, my generation. These are issues that affect all over the world and if we don't call for action to those climate emergencies, we might not have a viable future," one protester said.
"The world leaders will be convening at the United Nations, and it is important to continue to put pressure on those leaders to make real changes when it comes to the climate crisis. Right now, they are not moving fast enough and not taking the crisis seriously," added a second.
The General Debate, opening the 79th session of the UNGA, begins on Tuesday, with climate action, as well as conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon and Ukraine, all high on the agenda.
