Description

Young activists from the "Fridays for Future" movement set up tents in front of the European Parliament in Brussels on Saturday, to raise awareness about the fight against climate change on the weekend of the European parliamentary elections.

Youngsters occupying Espace Leopold square, who said they will stay until the end of the election, are encouraging young voters to participate and vote for MEPs who support action to protect the environment.

Passers-by expressed their concern about the rise of the far-right in Europe, as Spanish voter Estrella stated: "they [the EU elections] are very important because we are going to measure the reach of populism in every European country. It will be important because populism is rising everywhere, so we need to vote."

A UK voter stressed that the EU elections come at an unusual time for British people, who are taking part in the vote despite the ongoing Brexit process. "Well, it's a really strange day for us in the UK, because of course we are voting for parties in an election for a Parliament that we say we are not going to be part of."
