Description

Germany will aim to make progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and expanding financial commitments for climate, said deputy government spokesperson Martina Fietz during a press conference in Berlin on Friday.

The statement comes ahead of the COP26 meeting which begins in Glasgow on Sunday.

Fietz praised as a good signal that many leading countries pledged to support developing countries and announced that Germany will raise its contribution to 6 billion euros until 2025.

During the press conference, Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Andrea Sasse commented on the ongoing fishing rights row between France and the UK: "From our point of view it is important that both sides return to the negotiations of the previous weeks and months", she said, adding that Germany supports the EU Commission in clarifying the situation.

Sasse also underlined the appeal sent out to Israel by Germany and eleven other European countries calling on Israel to stop the settlement developments.
