Berlin welcomes the latest US sanctions against Russia and is open towards a coordinated approach in this regard, confirmed German Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Christofer Burger at a news conference in the capital on Friday.

"The US has announced the listing of seven people in relation to the poisoning, prosecution and arrest of Alexei Navalny. This is an important contribution from our point of view, and when one takes a look at the names included on this list one can see a great synchronisation between the sanctions taken by the EU and the measures taken by the US," said Burger.

According to the US Commerce Department, 14 Russian companies or entities for export controls have been blacklisted, in order to prevent the possible further developments of chemical weapons in Russia.

Three companies registered in Germany have also been placed on the so called 'entity list', Burger confirmed, adding that, "this has nothing to do in a narrow sense with the sanctions list, especially not with extraterritorial sanctions, but with measures of the US export control. And we are in contact with the US government about this."
