Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Galant stated on Thursday that the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was 'a clear message to all our enemies'.

"The State of Israel has brought justice with the elimination of Yahya Sinwar - a vile murderer and terrorist. Yahya Sinwar is the terrorist, the master terrorist, who planned and carried out the October 7th [massacre]," he said in a recorded statement near the border. "We will pursue and eliminate our enemies."

“Sinwar died while beaten, persecuted and on the run (…) This is a clear message to all of our enemies – the IDF will reach anyone who attempts to harm the citizens of Israel or our security forces,” he continued.

On Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also claimed 'the war in Gaza is not over yet', despite the killing of Sinwar.

The militant group also confirmed the leader's death on Friday. Sinwar replaced Ismail Haniyeh after the former leader of the Hamas Political Bureau was assassinated in Tehran in August.

The Israel-Hamas war has continued for over a year, starting with the militant group's unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the enclave, the IDF launched a large-scale campaign of airstrikes and ground incursions, killing over 42,000 and injuring at least 99,000 according to the Palestinian side.
