Description

Head of the Main Directorate for Combating Organised Crime and Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus Nikolai Karpenkov said that law enforcement officers will use firearms against protesters in case of active resistance.

"It is clear that we will use weapons humanely, including firearms. And we will clear the streets from the most dangerous and the most violent ones. Anyone, who lays a hand on law enforcement officer with a shank will see the backfire," said Karpenkov.

Karpenkov said that among protesters "there are no real men who really love their fatherland. I can find no better comparison for them but to call them organised crime groups based on the principle of 90's."

"They want to earn money. I saw all elections, all protests which were staged in 2001, 2006 and 2010 and 2015. I have never seen such immoral and cynical people, who have been taking part in the process before," added Karpenkov.

Belarus has been swept by anti-government protests following the disputed presidential election that saw incumbent President Lukashenko re-elected for a sixth term. Hundreds of thousands have taken to the streets in anti-government protests over the last two months.
