    Hundreds of runners took part in the race at the ancient site of the Step Pyramid of Djoser in Saqqara, Cairo, on Friday

    Footage shows runners from around the world running close to the 5,000-year-old step pyramid, believed to be the first pyramid ever built.

    "I was happy today, and I had a completely different feeling as I was running in the area of the pyramids of Saqqara amidst the Egyptian heritage and antiquities," said one of the participants.

    In all, the race consisted of two parts, 5 and 10 kilometres.
