German Interior Miniter Horst Seehofer expressed support for Polish actions at the border with Belarus, which he characterised as "correct and legitimate" in a press conference with his Polish counterpart Mariusz Kaminski in Warsaw, on Thursday.

"We stand by the side of Poland completely and what was Poland is doing in this migration crisis is correct and is legitimised. It is about an irregular migration that is organised in a perfidious way from Belarus with a certain probability also supported by Russia," Seehofer said.

"Poland is not only pursuing their own interests but also the interests of in the entire European Union," he added, before thanking Poland.

Thousands of migrants are currently stranded at the border between Belarus and Poland as they try to enter the European Union. Polish and European Union officials have accused Belarus of orchestrating the ongoing crisis as a 'hybrid attack' in retaliation for EU-imposed sanctions, which Belarus has denied.
