Description

Police were seen manning roadblocks and other security features set up around Berlin's Brandenburg Gate on Wednesday ahead of the New Year's Eve Party that will be celebrated without an audience this year due to coronavirus restrictions.

The annual New Year's Eve Party at Berlin's famous Brandenburg Gate is always one of Europe's biggest and loudest ways to see in the new year. This year, however, no crowd will be permitted at the event as has been the case at so many events this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The huge open-air celebrations are usually full of live bands, DJs and a huge fireworks display at midnight. Normally the event is free of charge and has attracted hundreds of thousands of people year after year.

This year's show will still go ahead with a host of German celebrities due to perform. The show will be aired for free on German television and online.
