Description

Numerous Palestinian families expressed their worries after hearing the news that they will be evicted due to a court ruling in Jerusalem on Wednesday.

The Jerusalem District Court ruled that the families of Sheikh Jarrah, a small district in East Jerusalem mainly occupied by Palestinians, were to be evicted this coming Sunday as documents submitted to the court show that Jews resided in the area prior to 1948.

"The court does not have the right to abandon any Jerusalemite citizen in the city of Jerusalem who is present, grew up, educated and all his life in this city. Today someone comes to tell him that you have no right to this house. This is a clear and explicit violence that insults and humiliates the Jerusalemite families." said Jerusalemite activist Zuhur Abu Mayaleh.

According to local reports, about 120 residents in total could be facing eviction between Sunday and August due to the ruling.
