Description

Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said the resignation of his British counterpart Theresa May opened up a "dangerous" new phase in the Brexit process when he cast his ballot in the EU elections in Dublin on Friday.

"British politics is consumed by Brexit and will be consumed by Brexit for a very long time. It means we are now entering a new phase when it comes to Brexit, and a phase that may be a very dangerous one for Ireland", stated Varadkar.

"We may see the election of a eurosceptic prime minister who wants to repudiate the withdrawal agreements and go for no deal. Or we may see a new British government that wants a closer relationship with the EU and goes for a second referendum," the Irish prime minister warned.
