Description

Preparations were underway at the refugee camp in Lesbos on Satuday, ahead of Pope Francis' visit to the Greek island.

The head of the Catholic Church and leader of the Vatican state arrived in Greece on Saturday morning for a three-day visit.

The migrants in the camp were excited about the pope's visit, with one migrant stating, "we know that the pope is coming tomorrow. And we expect him to, like, he will come to visit us. I am so happy for his visit because someone who thinks about the refugees is coming to visit us. We need him to help us in our situation. Not only for Christians but for all religions. How can I say... like all the refugees that are here in Greece."

Pope Francis is the second Catholic leader to visit Greece in the last 20 years. His trip to the region is an attempt to foster further collaboration between the Catholic and Greek Orthodox churches.
