Secretary-General of Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit condemned foreign interference in Libya and called for pursuing a comprehensive political solution to settle the crisis in the country, during a press conference he held in Cairo on Tuesday.
"We have followed with great concern and condemnation the increasing and rejected internationalisation of the Libyan crisis, with the exacerbation of the exposed foreign military interference in the conflict," said Aboul Gheit.
The secretary-general described Libya as "another stage for external intervention and regional targeting of an Arab League member state," due what he considered to be "repeated and declared violations" of the arms embargo on the country, as well as "the systematic recruitment of mercenaries and foreign fighters in the battlefield."
He emphasised that the Libyan crisis can only be settled through "a comprehensive political solution," and called for having an inclusive political process "under the original auspices of the United Nations."
