Description

Over a hundred protesters set off fireworks outside the Multnomah County Justice Center on Tuesday during a march intended to mark George Floyd's murder anniversary.

A wheelie bin was also set on fire outside the Justice Centre amid reports that some protesters were attempting to breach the perimeter of the building. Protesters also smashed a handful of businesses' windows during the march and at least five people were arrested during the night.

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd died after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin pinned him to the ground with a knee on his neck for more than nine minutes.

Chauvin was convicted in April of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter following a three-week trial. Three other former officers are still awaiting trial in the case.

Following the murder of George Floyd, Portland became a hotspot of civil unrest as it faced over a hundred consecutive nights of protests over racial injustice.
