Description

Afghan protesters gathered outside the UN Palais des Nations, Geneva, on Tuesday, to condemn the recent Taliban takeover of the country.

Crowds of demonstrators held Afghan flags, as well as signs calling for peace and equating the Taliban to terrorism.

“We do not want to recognise the Taliban government and we ask the world not to give any legitimacy to them because the Taliban have come through with guns," said rally organiser Mr Nawabi.

Activist Zarifa Ghafari stated that she had attended the demonstration to give a voice to the 'unspoken people,' especially Afghan women, who she says have been 'suffering lots' due to the war.

Taliban forces took control of Afghanistan amid the US withdrawal of its forces from the country in August. While the fundamentalist group has promised inclusivity, its government does not include any women.
