Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu called for 'solidarity' between states dealing with the 'burden' of waves of Afghan migrants, during an emergency meeting of the Co-operation Council of Turkic Speaking Countries to discuss Afghanistan in Istanbul on Monday.

"Developments in Afghanistan have global implications, but developments in Afghanistan are of greater interest to the Turkish Council as a country in the same region," said Cavusoglu, stressing that the two states are linked 'historically and culturally.'

Cavusoglu went on to state that the prevention of humanitarian crisis, human rights violations, irregular migration waves, and terrorism, were the country's main concerns regarding Afghanistan.
