Republican presidential candidate Valerie Pecresse held a political rally in Paris on Sunday

“I want a sovereign France, which is not subservient to anyone, a balanced power, an ally to certainly to the United States but non-aligned. A power that is listened to and respected. The France that says no to the war in Iraq, the France that makes the Russian tanks retreat from Georgia,” said Pecresse in a speech in front of hundreds of party supporters and those curious to hear out her poltical proposals.

“I don't give in to seeing France humiliated in Australia, Mali or Russia," added Pecresse.

In her statements, Pecresse also promised to establish a “new organisation for European security” which would stretch from “the Atlantic to the Urals.”

"I'm convinced that she would be a very good president because I saw how well she managed the presidency of the Ile-de-France region,” commented one rally attendee.

Pecresse previously served in government as a minister and government spokesperson during the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy.
