Description

Activists spoke about the current situation at the border between Poland and Belarus on Saturday, as food and clothing aid had been delivered to the village of Machalowo.

Activist Axel Grafmann from the German NGO 'Wir packen's an', who was visiting the area as the refugee crisis escalated, demanded that the German government take responsibility for the stalemate at the border, where migrants are stranded between the two countries. Grafmann, who was joined by Die Linke MP Zaklin Nastic, also asked Germany to provide support with a humanitarian corridor.

Local activist from the Groupa Granica group, Natalia Gebert, said that a group of one hundred refugees who crossed the Polish border in the last two days was intercepted, with many pushed back and some hospitalised.

The statements were made outside the local fire station turned into a collection centre for aid destined to migrants.
