Green Party candidate for chancellor Annalena Baerbock gave a speech after exit polls showed her party coming in third during the Greens election night event in Berlin on Sunday.

“We started for the first time in this Federal Republic to shape this country as a leading force. We wanted more; that we did not achieve it, is also because of our own mistakes at the beginning of the election campaign, because of my own mistake,” Baerbock stated.

“We have had the best result historically, we have had significantly more votes thanks to the election campaign,” and added “It shows that there is a young generation who wants us to shape this future together, because it is their and our trait, and that was just incredibly beautiful," she went on to say.

In the current projections from the ARD, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) is the strongest force leading with 25,8 percent, the Christian Democratic Union lagging slightly behind with 24.8 percent, and the Green Party with 14.3 percent.
